Like everyone else we were saddened to hear the news that Bury Football Club has been expelled from the English Football League. The Shakers were at the heart of the local community, with many people never missing a match.
Liz Woodings, Bury Healthy Minds service manager, said about the uncertain future of the football club:
“With Bury FC playing such a big role in many people’s lives, strong emotional reactions are completely understandable. It’s normal to feel very upset in circumstances like this because it’s such a big loss to our local community and identity.
"It’s important to take the time to look after yourself when you’re feeling down or struggling with feelings of grief or loss.”
Here are our top tips if you’re struggling to cope with today’s news:
- Talk to others about how you’re feeling and share your emotions so they can offer support
- Find your tribe with other supporters who will understand your sense of loss
- Avoid drugs or drink, they won’t help your mood in the long run and could make things worse
- Look after yourself by eating well and getting enough sleep
- Do relaxing comforting things like going for a walk or having a bath
- Carry on with other hobbies or activities you enjoy
- Think carefully about how much time you spend on social media and watching the news, switch it off if it’s not helping
