Our Oldham psychological medicine service recently celebrated 20 years of helping local people.
Dr Sarah Burlinson (pictured) helped to set up the service to support people with complex physical symptoms, which impact on mental health and psychological distress.
More recently they’ve helped developed a Greater Manchester service for people suffering from long term difficulties after having covid.
One patient, called John, said of his experience:
“I came to the service due to neurological issues which over a number of years have built into physical disorders.
Staff have been very patient, empathetic and compassionate in their approach. They’ve helped me to not feel embarrassed, not to condemn and hurt myself. I can accept myself and feel proud of how far I’ve come.
I’d like to thank those who work tirelessly to bring the very best care to service users who feel broken and without hope.”
Another patient, Sandra, added:
“I think this service is brilliant for helping me. If I’m stuck, Diane will point me in the right way.”
